Troops of “Operation Accord” kill nine bandits, apprehend 11 illegal miners in Zamfara

Troops of “Operation ACCORD” have killed two bandits and recovered two AK-47 rifles while on covert operations at Galadi village in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Confirming the report, Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Major General John Enenche said the troops intensified the onslaught against criminal elements in the North West zone with significant successes.
He also stated that the troops during clearance operations at Sabon Tunga and Tamuske villages neutralised several bandits and rescued three kidnapped victims.
Enenche said the gallant troops supported by Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunships bombarded bandit’s enclaves at Dutsen Emai in Zamfara State.
Meanwhile, the troops while on routine patrol at Gobirawa village made contact with bandits.
Enenche said, six bandits were neutralised while four AK 47 rifles, three Dane guns and two motorcycles were recovered during the encounter.
He said following credible intelligence on activities of illegal miners at Kadauri general area in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, troops swiftly mobilized to the scene and apprehended 11 suspected illegal miners.
The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, said the suspects had been handed over to the appropriate prosecuting authority for further action.
He also stated that troops of Forward Operating Base Kwatarkwashi arrested one Shafiu Suleman, a wanted bandit’s informant at Kwatarkwashi Market.
Enenche said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was the mastermind of recent kidnapping of some Locals within Kwatarkwashi district of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
He said following distress calls on presence of suspected bandits at Gidan Ruwa along Rukudawa axis of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State on 22 November 2020, troops swiftly responded and pursued the bandits as they fled on sighting the approaching troops.
Enenche said one bandit was neutralised and two bandits were arrested in the process, while one AK-47 rifle and one magazine loaded with 29 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered.
He said troops, on 22 November 2020, arrested a suspected kidnap kingpin in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to him, the suspect who had been on the wanted list was presently in custody for further action.
He said the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies would not relent until all enemies of the Nation were neutralised and normalcy was restored to all troubled zones.
