A Magistrate’s Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced 29-year-old labourer, Murtar Nasiru to 18 months in prison for breaking into a house and stealing.
The Magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of trespass and theft.
Pati, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N20, 000 for trespass or six months in prison, and N30, 000 fine for stealing or one year in prison.
She directed that both sentences run concurrently, and also ordered the convict to pay N108, 000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Oct. 13, 2025 at the Nassarawa Gbong Police Station by one Kefas Emmanuel, the complainant.

Gokwat said that the convict broke into the house and stole power bank, baby clothes, shoes, building materials, plumbing equipment; all valued at N108, 000 and sold them to a man who is now at large.
He said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
