A security guard, Goodluck Philip was on Thursday docked in a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court Abuja for allegedly stealing his employer’s clothes and foodstuffs.
The police charged Phillip, 20, who lives in Jukwai Abuja , with criminal trespass and theft.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel,, Mr Charity Nwachukwu told the court that the complainant, Mr Nwokuma Emmanuel of Rainbow Estate Life Camp, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on April 16.
Nwachukwu said that the complainant’s neighbour, called the complainant to report that his house had been broken into.
She said the complainant rushed back to his house and discovered that the defendant, who he employed as security guard to save and secure his property had broken into his house.
Nwachukwu told the court that the complainant claimed that the defendant stole 15 sets of clothing worth N560,00, foodstuffs worth N300,000, his wedding ring, five pairs of shoes and perfume.
She said the complainant also claimed that the defendant made away with 700 dollars and N87,000 cash, his wife’s ATM card, foreign chocolate valued N140, 000, jewelries and other items.
She informed the court that during Police investigation the defendant made a confessional statement, admitting to the crime.
Nwachukwu said that some of the stolen items were recovered from the defendant.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 249 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Best Ojukwu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N200,000 with a one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provides reliable means of identification.
Ojukwu adjourned the matter until June 16 for hearing.
