A politician and community mobiliser in Ebubu, Eleme LGA of Rivers State, Samuel Obe Ngobe, was shot dead on May 22 after gunmen attacked his hotel.
Police said two masked men arrived on a motorcycle, went to where Ngobe was seated, and opened fire at close range. Residents said the attackers also took mobile phones from hotel workers and others at the scene to prevent them from calling for help.
The killing has heightened tension in the community, with residents raising concerns over rising violent crime in the area.
Police spokesperson in Rivers State, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident on Monday but did not provide details on arrests or the ongoing investigation.
