The Lagos State Government has announced an emergency closure of Eko Bridge outbound to Lagos Island from Tuesday, May 12, 2026, for safety investigations and repair works.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who announced this in a statement on Sunday, urged motorists to use alternative routes.
Osiyemi disclosed that the closure will affect the stretch between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa.
The commissioner stated: “Road users heading to Lagos Island should divert through the Third Mainland Bridge.

“The inward Lagos Island carriageway will remain open to motorists.”

He added that traffic and security personnel would be deployed along alternative routes to ensure smooth vehicular movement and help maintain order during the period of the closure.
