The Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Authority has declared Saturday, 29th November 2025, as monthly environmental sanitation exercise day across Yenagoa metropolis and its environs.
In a special announcement signed by the Chairman, High Chief Timothy Diekivie Itiedu, residents are mandated to clean their compounds, cut overgrown grasses, clear gutters and drains, and ensure natural waterways are free from blockages between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The statement urged residents to properly dispose of their waste at designated dumpsites or receptacles to prevent it from being washed back during rains.
It stated that movement will be restricted throughout the three-hour period. Only workers on essential duties with prior clearance from the Environmental Sanitation Authority will be exempted.
Authorities warned that activities such as playing football and riding bicycles will no longer be permitted during the sanitation hours, with defaulters to face sanctions.

The Chairman commended communities in Yenagoa and market leaders at Swali, Kpansia, Opolo, Etegwe, and other major markets for their consistent cooperation and mobilisation.
He also urged corporate organisations to partner with the Authority in promoting a cleaner and healthier environment.
“Keeping our environment clean is a collective responsibility. Let us work together to keep Bayelsa State clean and green,” the statement concluded.
The monthly exercise is part of the state government’s sustained effort to prevent flooding, control disease outbreaks, and maintain aesthetic standards in the state capital.
