● Says protesters at Party Secretariat are hired touts by opposition parties
Protesters in Edo State Labour Party Secretariat in Benin are hired touts.
The touts operated alongside one or two disgruntled members of the LP who wished that their imported greed and poverty from the PDP and APC would be solved by the party, according to one of the Labour Party’s state officials.
Owan East nominated Coordinator for the Labour Party, Mr Francis Ohilebo and Mr Job Ozemoje had allegedly compromised and were dancing to the tune of their sponsors even as they had made a case for an unknown former placeholder after election was conducted.
The conduct of the election had produced Comrade Erasmus Ohi Ikhide.
But the move by the two party members, as reported was geared towards destabilising the party and the Obi-dient movement.
“We’re sourcing for a replacement for Mr Ohilebo for campaigning against themselves, the Labour Party and the candidate that emerged in an election he supervised alongside other party members in Owan Federal Constituency which was well covered by the media.
“Their exit from the Labour Party will serve as deterrent to seasoned and jobless politicians who think it’s business as usual by positioning themselves to exploit candidates before they are elected into political offices.
“Mr Peter Obi’s and Labour Party’s style, strategy and tradition is in contrast with characters who view our rescue Nigeria mission as a platform to enrich themselves”, the party official said.
Owan East Coordinator of Take Back Naija Support Group, Comrade Ali Bashiru Stephen has distanced himself and the group from the protest, saying “we can’t be part of selfish politicians who do not mean well for our country.
“We’re not part of the protest against Comrade Erasmus Ohi Ikhide’s candidacy because we monitored the election that produced him and his name has since been published by INEC.
“Those who collected money from opposition politicians for the so called five persons protest to derail the candidate, Labour Party and Mr Peter Obi should be told that no amount of hired touts can stop the Obi-dient moving train”, Comrade Stephen.
The State Labour Party Chairman could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.
