APM denies faction reports, welcomes defection of Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde

The Allied People’s Movement, APM, has dismissed reports of a faction within the party, saying it remains united under National Chairman Yusuf Mamman Dantalle.

Former Board of Trustees Chairman Muhammed Musa Bagana said Monday that claims of a split were “fake news” spread by those seeking to destabilise the party.

He also disowned a statement allegedly issued in his name rejecting the defection of Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed and Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde.

“There is no faction in the Allied People’s Movement and no pending appeal in the Supreme Court or any court in Nigeria on leadership dispute in the party,” Bagana said.

He welcomed the two governors and their supporters, describing their entry as a boost for democracy and political development.

“Their defection is a giant step forward in the quest for sustainable democracy and development in Nigeria,” he said, adding that it had altered political calculations and positioned the APM as a stronger platform ahead of future elections.

Bagana said he was unaware of a statement attributed to a spokesman for a non-existent faction and did not authorise it. He noted that past disagreements with Dantalle had been resolved and there was no leadership tussle or court case involving him and the party leadership.

“The public should ignore these peddlers of fake news and agents of political destabilisation. APM is united and strong under the leadership of Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle,” he said.
