Amnesty International has condemned the threats made against Daily Trust reporter, Eyo Charles, in Calabar by former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

The international human rights watch said Eyo was a reporter just doing his job, adding that the actions of Fani-Kayode during that press conference were an attack on freedom of the press.

The Global rights watch dog said “journalists seek accountability on behalf of the people and should not be threatened or abused for asking questions.”

Amnesty International added that these patterns of attacks on media and journalists must end.

The group said journalists played a key role in promoting the right to information by documenting and disseminating information.

It added that journalists had been contending with challenges that made their job difficult and they should be able to do their job free from violence, abuse and threats.
