● Says Badenoch’s inflammatory comments could set a troubling precedent for the UK

The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro), a leading global peace advocacy organization, has raised concerns over comments made by Kemi Badenoch, the newly-elected leader of the UK Conservative Party.

Badenoch’s remarks about Nigeria, particularly Northern Nigeria, have been described by PeacePro’s Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat as “dismissive, segregatory, and capable of inciting disunity.”

In a recent statement by Executive Director Abdulrazaq Hamzat, PeacePro highlighted Badenoch’s comments on Nigeria, including her assertion that she is “not a PR representative for Nigeria” and her characterization of Northern Nigeria in what the organization called “inflammatory and divisive terms.”

Hamzat warned that “such rhetoric not only undermines Nigeria’s internal cohesion but could also impact the broader Commonwealth, of which both nations are prominent members.”

“These remarks are harmful on multiple levels,” said the Director of PeacePro.

“They risk exacerbating regional tensions in Nigeria and threaten Commonwealth unity.

“Leaders in positions of global influence must prioritize diplomacy and sensitivity.”

Hamzat also expressed concerns that Badenoch’s rhetoric could set a troubling precedent for the UK itself, particularly in a multicultural society.

“If divisive practices are not addressed, there is a real risk of such rhetoric being exported to the UK, where it could deepen existing social divides,” the statement added.

PeacePro urged the UK Conservative Party to address the situation swiftly, emphasizing the importance of responsible leadership.

“The Conservative Party must ensure that its leader embodies values that promote unity and collaboration, both within the UK and across the Commonwealth,” PeacePro said.
