The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa Command, on Monday assured residents of adequate security during and after the Yuletide celebrations.

The command’s spokesperson, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, who gave the assurance in a statement issued in Dutse, said the command had deployed its officers and men across the state.

He added that the NSCDC State Commandant, Muhammad Kabir, had ordered the massive deployment of personnel across the 27 local government areas of the state.

“This is to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations,” Tijjani said.

According to him, the deployment covers regular and specialised NSCDC units, including Operations, Anti-Vandal, Agro Rangers, Armed Squad, Counter Terrorism, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Response (CBRNE) unit.

He added that special attention had been placed on the protection of places of worship, public utilities, recreational centres, government installations, motor parks, markets, shopping malls and other identified vulnerable areas.

“In addition, major entry and exit routes into the state, including border areas, are being adequately monitored to enhance surveillance, and stop-and-search operations are being conducted where necessary,” the spokesperson said.

According to him, the commandant has also charged personnel to strictly adhere to the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

He emphasised the need for effective synergy and collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure the overall success of the operation.

Tijjani urged members of the public to be law-abiding, vigilant and cooperative, and appealed to them to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security formation.

He also advised parents and guardians to closely monitor the activities of their children and wards, cautioning against the use of fireworks, knockouts and other dangerous items capable of causing panic or fire outbreaks.

“The command sternly warns vandals and other criminal elements to desist from targeting government installations, critical infrastructure and public utilities, as anyone apprehended will be dealt with accordingly.

“On behalf of the officers and men of the command, the state commandant wishes the Christian faithful a Merry Christmas and all residents of Jigawa a peaceful and prosperous New Year,” Tijjani stated.
