Hon. Bashir Sheriff Machina, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Yobe North senatorial district has vowed not to step down for the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan in the 2023 election.

In a letter to the national chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, dated 13th June 2022, Machina said though he remained loyal to the party, he was committed to the mandate given to him during the primary election.

He vowed not to step down for anybody.

Recall, Senate President, Lawal, who presently represents the district at the upper chamber, contested the presidential primary of the party but lost to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He has tried since then to reclaim the party’s ticket to go back to the Senate in 2023.

The letter read in part: “I write to reaffirm my continued aspiration as the All Progressives Congress unequivocal senatorial candidate for the Yobe North Senatorial District, following my participation, and victory at the party primaries where I pulled 289 votes out of 300 total votes cast.

“I write to reaffirm that I remain committed to the mandate which I won at the primaries, and I have not in any form or manner communicated otherwise. I have been informed of a purported malicious, and mischievous report and insinuation to the contrary.

“Please note that I never at anytime signed nor communicated in any form any intent to vacate my mandate, which was won at the primaries. I am totally committed to my mandate and (I)am working towards delivering Yobe North Senotarial District to our great party, the All Progressives Congress.”
