Results of the 2020 WASSCE have been been released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC)
WAEC released the results on Monday, November 2, 2020, at 10:30 am., even as it stated that results of 215,149 candidates were withheld.
The release of the WAEC result came barely 24-hours after the West African Examination Council(WAEC) said in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, that the results of the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) conducted earlier this year would be released today, Monday, November 2.
WAEC had tweeted on Sunday: “This is to inform candidates that sat West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2020 that the results of that exam will be released by @waecnigeria tomorrow, Monday, November 2, 2020, by 10:30 am.”
A statement by by Parick E. Areghan, the Head of WAEC Nigeria on Monday morning said: “Out of the 1,538,445 candidates that sat for the examination, 1,338,348 candidates representing 86.99%, obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five (5) subjects (i.e with or without English Language and/ or Mathematics.
“1,0003,668 candidates, representing 65.24%, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.”

He said that results of 215,149 candidates who sat for the 2020 WASSCE had been withheld by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
According to WAEC, the 215,149 candidates who had their results withheld were under investigation for various reported cases of examination malpractices.
Speaking on the development, Areghan said in Lagos that, “The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination in due course.
“The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools.”
