Comrade Esther Ahmadu

The National Chairperson of the Women Wing of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Esther Ahmadu, has expressed deep concern over the alarming increase in cases of violence against women and the girl child, describing the trend as a growing threat to the safety and survival of the female gender.

Ahmadu strongly condemned the persistent incidents of abuse, harassment, and violence targeting women in workplaces and educational institutions. She warned that such acts, if left unchecked, could undermine the progress and well-being of women across the country.

She further lamented that women and girls are now exposed to both physical and digital forms of violence, including bullying and harassment, noting that the evolving nature of abuse requires urgent and decisive intervention.

Calling for immediate action, Ahmadu urged the government to establish and enforce robust protective measures to ensure that women are safe from molestation, violation, and intimidation in all environments. She emphasized that beyond preventive strategies, there must also be strict punitive measures to deter potential offenders and bring perpetrators to justice.

The TUC women leader also appealed to society to recognize and appreciate the immense contributions of women, describing them as resourceful, resilient, and result-oriented individuals who continue to play vital roles in social, economic, and political development.

Highlighting the importance of inclusivity, she called on employers and government institutions to actively engage and involve women in decision-making processes, noting their proven competence, management skills, and capacity to drive growth.

Ahmadu concluded by warning that the nation risks losing valuable human capital if women continue to face unchecked abuse and marginalization, stressing that a safe and supportive environment is essential for harnessing the full potential of the female gender and fostering sustainable national development.
