Troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army averted a potential fire disaster in Port Harcourt on October 23, 2024, after a tanker carrying premium motor spirit (PMS) overturned at Rumuokwuta Roundabout.
Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Division Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, confirmed the incident and praised the seamless collaboration between the Army and other agencies in preventing a potential catastrophe.
Danjuma said responding swiftly to the emergency, Major Almustapha Shawwal Adams, Acting Commanding Officer of the 760 Transport Battalion, mobilized the division’s fire crew to the scene to prevent an outbreak.
He said the operation, conducted in coordination with sister agencies, ensured all safety protocols were followed.
Danjuma added that the area was cordoned off, and necessary preventive measures were implemented and no lives or property were lost, and the situation was safely controlled.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, commended the troops for their swift and effective response.
He reassured the residents of Rivers State of the Division’s continued commitment to public safety, in line with the Army’s emphasis on civil-military cooperation under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
