GOC 6 Div naugurates supermarket, reaffirms commitment to troops’ welfare

In a bid to bolster the welfare of officers, soldiers, and their families, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has unveiled the newly established Nigerian Army Post Exchange (NAPEX) Supermarket at Python Shopping Mall, located in Port Harcourt Barracks.

According to Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, during the ceremony on Friday, Major General Abdussalam underscored the Division’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for personnel, emphasizing that the 6 Division, under his leadership, remains focused on providing sound administrative support and promoting welfare initiatives.

He highlighted that the establishment of the NAPEX Supermarket is a strategic move aimed at achieving these objectives, aligning with the welfare-focused agenda of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

Abdussalam also announced future welfare-oriented projects, including the planned installation of a gas plant in the barracks to provide affordable and accessible cooking gas to the barracks community.

He reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to the COAS’ welfare-centered vision, ensuring that impactful projects continue to uplift the morale and effectiveness of troops.

In his remarks, Major General Samson Jiya, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee, praised the ongoing efforts to improve troop welfare, noting that the NAPEX Supermarket and other recent projects, such as a Petroleum Gas Plant at Headquarters 2 Division, are vital to supporting personnel and their families.

The event featured a facility tour, the unveiling of the NAPEX signage, and presentations of souvenirs, with Brigadier General George Nkenke, Managing Director of NAPEX, expressing gratitude to the GOC for enhancing troop morale through these welfare initiatives.

The NAPEX Supermarket will be managed by Bakan Gizo Pharmacy and Stores Limited, providing flexible and affordable services for officers, soldiers, and their families.
