Troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have intensified operations against illegal oil activities across the Niger Delta Region (NDR), dismantling 18 illegal refining sites and arresting 17 suspected oil thieves between February 17 and 23, 2025.
According to Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the operations also led to the seizure of over 25,000 litres of stolen crude oil and the demobilization of 10 boats used for illicit activities.
In Rivers State, key operations were carried out in Akuku-Toru, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, and Bukuma, leading to the destruction of multiple illegal refining sites and the seizure of over 15,000 litres of stolen crude.
Troops intercepted a truck carrying 3,000 litres of crude oil at Ogale Junction along the Eket–Port Harcourt Expressway and uncovered an oil bunkering dump in Okwuzi stocked with 2,100 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

In Bayelsa State, three illegal refining sites were dismantled at Clough Creek in Ekeremor LGA, with 3,500 litres of crude oil recovered.
A similar operation in Yenagoa LGA led to the deactivation of another refining site and the confiscation of 2,000 litres of stolen crude.
Troops also carried out successful raids in Delta State, intercepting a Toyota Camry loaded with illicit AGO in Sapele LGA, resulting in the arrest of six suspects.
Additionally, a tricycle transporting sacks of illegally refined products was seized along the Ughelli–Patani Expressway.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, commended the troops for their relentless efforts and urged them to maintain the operational tempo to prevent economic saboteurs from exploiting the region’s resources.
