In a significant crackdown on kidnapping activities, Nigerian Army troops deployed for internal security duties executed successful operations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Oyo State.
On Thursday, May 23, 2024, troops raided a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the Ajegunle Mpape area of the Bwari Area Council, FCT.
The operation targeted a notorious informant known for assisting kidnappers. The troops arrested an informant, Ashiru Mohammed, along with two female accomplices, Raham Abubakar and Sadiya Mohammed.
They were found in possession of a Beretta pistol, a pistol magazine, 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition, five ATM cards, two mobile phones, and suspected illicit drugs.
The suspects are aiding further investigations.
In Oyo State, troops conducted a stop-and-search operation on the Igboho-Igbeti Road in the Igbeti Local Government Area, following intelligence on a kidnap syndicate in the Sepeteri area.
They intercepted a suspected kidnapper, Usman Mohammed Aliyu, who was carrying 400,000 naira.
Aliyu confessed to involvement in cattle rustling and kidnapping during interrogation.
The suspects will be handed over to appropriate prosecuting agencies after investigations.
These coordinated operations reflect the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining security and combating criminal activities in collaboration with other security agencies nationwide.
The arrests and seizures are expected to significantly disrupt the operations of kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks in the affected areas.
