Shehu Yahaya Jalam, Permanent Secretary for Special Services in the Bauchi State Government, has died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, while on the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
Jalam passed in the early hours of Sunday after a brief illness, according to a statement from Governor Bala Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
The deceased, who held the traditional title Turakin Dawakin Misau, was part of the Bauchi State contingent for this year’s Hajj when he took ill.
The state government described the news as a moment of deep sorrow. Gidado said Jalam was a “dedicated, loyal, and hardworking public servant who devoted his life and energy to the service of Bauchi State,” noting his role in coordinating past Hajj operations and other government assignments.
Funeral prayers were held Sunday after Zuhr prayer at the Holy Mosque of the Ka’aba in Makkah.
Governor Mohammed condoled with the family, the offices of the Secretary to the State Government and Head of Civil Service, and the Misau and Dambam Emirate Councils.
He prayed for God to forgive Jalam’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family strength to bear the loss.
