Martins Owamagbe Aimuanwonsa Osakue, a prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area, Edo South, has resigned from the party, citing significant dissatisfaction with the party’s direction and treatment of his region.
In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman, Osakue expressed disillusionment with the party’s handling of primary elections at all levels, describing the processes as mismanaged and indicative of a party “on a journey of self-destruct.”
Osakue criticized the PDP for what he perceived as a disregard for the interests of Edo South and his professional concerns.
He emphasized that as a native of Benin, distancing himself from the party was necessary.
Looking ahead, Osakue and his supporters plan to scrutinize other party candidates, questioning their commitment to addressing critical regional issues.
Key questions include the restoration of Tayo Akpata University, which has languished since Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure, and the candidates’ strategies to tackle burdensome taxes on businesses and individuals in Edo State.
Osakue concluded by thanking the PDP for the opportunity to serve, expressing his sincere gratitude and best wishes for the future.
