The discovery was made early this morning at Essex Industrial Park, although the identities of the victims were yet to be ascertained as of the time of this report.
The BBC reported that a 25-year old Northern Ireland citizen, believed to be the driver, has been arrested and is being detained on suspicion of murder.
Police said the lorry entered the United Kingdom through Holyhead on October 19, 2019. The lorry was believed to have departed from Bulgaria.
Police described the incident as “absolute tragedy”, while hinting that the investigation will be a “lengthy process”.
Mr Boris Johnson, MP, British Prime Minister, has reacted to the shocking discovery, saying he was “appalled by the tragic incident”.
