Osinbajo-led FEC orders payment of minimum wage latest Dec. 31 as meeting approves change change of name for Communications Ministry

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has directed the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, to effect payment of the new minimum wage on or before 31st December, 2019.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, at the end of FEC meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

He also said FEC approved the minimum wage to take effect from 18 April 2019.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said FEC approved N1.7 billion for procurement and installation of communication equipment for airport towers in Zaria and Katsina.

The equipment, he said, was to ensure safety and efficiency at the airports.

He said the completion period for the contract was eight months.

Meanwhule, the FEC  on Wednesday approved the change of name for the Ministry of Communications, now to be called Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

The Ministry was created in 2011 as Ministry of Communication Technology to foster a knowledge based economy and information society in Nigeria.

The Ministry was created to facilitate ICT as a key tool in the transformation agenda for Nigeria in the areas of job creation, economic growth and transparency of governance.

Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami is the Minister of the Ministry.
