Owie condemns barbaric assault on Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki; calls on IGP to prosecute culprits for gross breach of fundamental human rights
Senator Roland Owie

A former member of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, said on Friday that he did not issue any statement concerning Supreme Court judgment on the lingering Edo State Peoples Democratic Party crisis.

The senator, who represented Edo South in the upper house, said he was not the author of a statement currently circulating on the social media.

In a statement he personally signed, entitled: “For The Records,” Senator Owie noted that he never made “such divisive and inflammatory remarks.”

He appealed to members of the party in the state to remain calm as the crisis would soon be resolved.

Part of the statement read: “My attention has been drawn to rather mischievous attempts to ascribe to my person, a statement that has been circulating on social media since the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered its judgement this morning.

“As a founding member of our great party (PDP), a Leader of Note, and a respected elder statesman, my persona does not lend itself to such divisive and inflammatory remarks, more so, at this critical moment of seeking peace and cohesion within the PDP as a family.

“It is also on record that I personally sign all my Press Releases – both on traditional and social media – and as such this asinine attempt to ascribe such a vacuous statement to me is most unfortunate and reprehensible.

“I commend their Lordships, the Honourable Justices of the Supreme Court, for their verdict this morning. I am also confident that in line with the long established dispute resolution mechanisms of our great Party, all pending issues in the Edo State chapter shall be amicably resolved in the larger interest of all stakeholders, and for the greater glory of God.

“I appeal to all PDP stakeholders and party faithfuls in Edo State to remain calm and be ready to support and ensure victory for the PDP in the forthcoming elections.

“Thank you.

“Unto Jesus, We Surrender.”
