Police host stakeholders meeting to strengthen inter-agency collaborations

The Inspector-General of Police, Acting IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has convened a vital inter-agency consultative security meeting at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters in Abuja on October 17, 2023. This meeting was orchestrated in anticipation of the off-season elections slated for November 11, 2023, in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States.

According to Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the event, which saw representation from the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of operations, DIG Ede Ayuba, on behalf of the IGP, focused on the paramount importance of knowledge exchange among various security and law enforcement agencies in the context of election security.

The primary objective was to cultivate collaborative strategies that would guarantee the safety, integrity, fairness, and credibility of the impending elections.

Distinguished senior officers representing the leadership of diverse security and law enforcement agencies engaged in election security attended this pivotal gathering.

This assembly featured representatives from the Service Chiefs, namely the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Chief of Naval Staff (CoNS), and Chief of Air Force Staff (CoAFS), along with the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Director-General of the Department of State Services (DG DSS), Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (DG NIA), Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (CG NIS), Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (CG NSCDC), Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (CG NCS), Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Services (CG Correctional Services), Comptroller-General of the Federal Fire Service (CG Federal Fire Service), and Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DG NDLEA).

DIG Ede Ayuba commended the collaborative endeavors of the armed forces and sister law enforcement agencies, recognizing their vital role in promoting unity and contributing to the success of previous general elections.

This meeting stands as one element within a series of brainstorming sessions outlined by the Force, with the overarching aim of safeguarding the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for November 11, 2023.

The meeting, which will continue until the conclusion of the upcoming gubernatorial elections in the three affected states, encompassed a wide spectrum of topics that reflect the multifaceted considerations of election security.

This included an extensive evaluation of potential threats and vulnerabilities in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States, as well as discussions on intelligence sharing, logistical planning, conflict prevention, technology and innovation deployment, and manpower allocation.

During the proceedings, DIG Ede Ayuba underscored the IGP’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the elections and issued a stern warning to political actors and their followers.

They were admonished to abide by the rule of law, as the police and other security agencies are resolute in their determination to prevent any acts of hooliganism, political misconduct, or lawlessness, whether in the affected states or any other region across the nation.
