• As IGP orders clampdown on non-state actors, condoles with families, relatives of deceased officers
The Nigeria Police Force has mourned victims of the recent tragic attack on security operatives in Imo State.
The attack had resulted in the loss of lives of officers from various agencies dedicated to maintaining peace and protecting lives in the state.
This incident occurred on September 19, 2023, in Oriagu, Ehime Mbano Area of Imo State, reminding us of the daily risks our security personnel face in their commitment to our safety.
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, Abuja, these security agents were responding to a fake distress call designed to ambush them.
The affected personnel included Police Officers, the Military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Egbetokun, assured the public of the NPF’s dedication to collaborating closely with relevant authorities for a thorough investigation and the pursuit of justice.
The NPF will intensify efforts to apprehend the culprits, ensuring the safety of officers and communities.
“The public is urged to stay calm, remain vigilant, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace in Imo State and across the country.”
Ag. IGP Olukayode Egbetokun extended condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, promising that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
He said: “Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to come forward and assist in the investigation, either openly or anonymously through NPF’s social media handles @PoliceNG or via email at pressforabuja@police.gov.ng”
