Nasarawa State governorship aspirant Professor Mohammad Sani Haruna has dismissed Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of a rival, saying the 2027 race will be decided by voters, not “anointed candidates.”
“In fact, I am happy that the endorsement has happened because now we will see the people’s preference,” Haruna told reporters Friday in Abuja after submitting his APC nomination and expression of interest forms.
“Politics is a game of numbers and the people will decide.”
Haruna, a professor and APC chieftain, faulted the governor’s public backing of another aspirant but said he was “not comfortable” with the process that produced it.
“There are certain processes that we are not comfortable with, and that is why I raised my hand,” he said.
He insisted his record and grassroots reach would trump any endorsement when delegates vote.
“I assure you, I have touched the lives of individuals more than anybody else. This is a payback period for the people of Nasarawa State,” Haruna said.
He predicted that voters would “line up behind him instead” during the primaries.
Haruna urged supporters to reject violence and personal attacks, saying his campaign would focus on issues, not insults.
“There is no need for supporters to quarrel or fight over political issues,” he said. “We preach peace, coexistence and issue-based politics. We discuss governance, development and policies, not personalities.”
He said his team disciplines supporters who engage in smear campaigns.
“We do not accept character assassination. In fact, we take disciplinary action against any supporter who insults another candidate. That is our principle,” Haruna said.
