Peter Obi has emerged as the sole presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election.
The party confirmed Obi’s candidacy after he was screened by its 17-member screening committee on May 19. The committee was chaired by former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu.
NDC said Obi was the only aspirant to purchase the presidential nomination form before sales closed on May 19. The party had extended sales for other positions until May 26.
Obi arrived at the party’s Abuja headquarters at about 6:45 p.m., accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh. He submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms through an aide.
The 17-member committee, inaugurated the same day, will also screen aspirants for governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives seats. NDC National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu said Egwu will serve as chairman, with NDC National Legal Adviser Barr. Reuben Egwuaba as secretary.
