A mother in Port Harcourt is calling for justice after her three children were allegedly killed by a learner driver on May 16.

Mrs. Amarachi Esomonu said her children, aged 10, 4, and 3, died on the spot in the incident. In a video circulating online Tuesday, she alleged that those involved are trying to suppress the case and shield the suspect from prosecution.

“My children will not just go like that. I lost my three kids all because of a careless person. They should not let them go scot-free,” she said, appealing to Nigerians and human rights activists for support.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju described it as painful and unfortunate.

In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer Agabe Blessing-Kaborlo, the command said a thorough investigation is underway.

“The Command remains committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice,” the statement read.

Police urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with investigators. [The Punch report rewritten]
