As a practical demonstration of its commitment to the Paris Agreement on global action on climate crisis, Nigerian Government has submitted its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Interim Report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The report was submitted on Thursday, 27th May, 2021.
Submitting the report last Thursday on behalf of the Nigerian Government, Minister of Environment, Dr Muhammad Abubakar, stated that Nigeria was making steady progress towards meeting its NDC.
The minister said: “This action underscores our determination to achieving the commitment we signed in 2015 to reduce Nigeria’s carbon emissions unconditionally by 20 percent and 45 percent conditionally with international support by 2030.”
The submission made by Nigeria was also to fulfill the requirements for competing in the 2021 Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action ( NAMA) Call for Proposal.
The NAMA Call for Proposal is an opportunity provided by Germany, the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and others to mobilize finance for Climate Action around the globe, mainly to finance the mitigation of measures of the NDC.
