The House of Representatives has provided clarifications on reports about the discovery of a deceased individual in a car parked in and around the prsemises of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Monday, the House Spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., said the clarifications were based on the official account of the Nigeria Police Force, which was leading investigations into the incident.

According to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the National Assembly Division, the deceased—suspected to be a labourer at a construction site within the complex—was found around 9 a.m inside a red Peugeot 406 car with registration number BWR-577 BF.

The vehicle was parked outside the Annexe Building Gate, close to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

“The body, discovered in a sleeping position on the back seat, was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

“The remains have since been evacuated to the mortuary, and efforts are ongoing to establish the deceased’s identity and contact the family,” Rotimi quoted the police as saying.

He added that the National Assembly remains in close coordination with security and emergency agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.

Rotimi commended the swift response of the police and assured that the House would continue to monitor developments closely.

“On behalf of the House of Representatives, we extend our sympathies to the family and associates of the deceased, once identified, and we assure Nigerians that updates will be provided transparently as investigations progress,” he stated.
