Oyo State has reversed its order to shut schools in four local government areas, directing all public primary schools to reopen on Monday.

The U-turn comes after the state deployed additional security operatives to Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire, and Olorunsogo LGAs following Friday’s attack in Ahoro-Esinele.

Gunmen had stormed LEA School and Community Grammar School, abducting an unspecified number of students and the secondary school principal. A teacher was killed during the raid.

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board initially ordered schools closed to let security agencies stabilize the area. Executive Chairman Dr. Nureni Adeniran said the decision to reopen followed a “comprehensive security review.”

He said coordinated efforts under the Commissioner of Police have strengthened safety measures in schools across the axis, and learning can now resume “without fear.”

Parents and guardians have been urged to stay calm. Adeniran said security agencies have assured sustained surveillance and protection in all affected communities.
