A group of Professionals Organising for Osagie Ize-Iyamu (POI), the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State has described Anslem Ojezua as an impostor masquerading to be the chairman of APC in the state.
The State Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chris Nehikhare, had claimed that, by a court judgement, Ojezua is the authentic chairman of the APC in Edo.
But in a statement issued by Director of Information and Strategy, Professionals Organising for Ize-Iyamu (POI), Benedict Osaro Isioma, on Sunday, the group disagreed with the PDP spokesman, stating that Col. David Imuse (rtd) is the recognised APC chairman in the state.
While noting that the ex parte order that granted Ojezua the right to parade himself as the party’s chairman in the state had expired, the group stated that Imuse’s appeal is still pending before the Court of Appeal.
It accused Ojezua of being an “agent” of the incumbent governor and governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Godwin Obaseki.
The professionals, therefore, asked the PDP in Edo to stay out of the business of the APC.
“Our attention has been drawn to an outright falsehood attributable to Chris Nehikhare the PDP Publicity Secretary in Edo State, falsely stating that by a Judgment of Court one Anslem Ojezua is the Chairman of the APC in Edo State. Nothing can be more farther from the truth than this blatant twisting of facts and law,” the statement said.
The Ex Parte Order gotten by Ojezua from the Edo State High Court, No. 10, Benin City, Presided over by Hon. Justice VOA Oviawe, in Suit No. B/177OS/2019, was got in controversial circumstances at the same time the Chief Judge of the State, Justice E.A. Edigin was being sworn in as Chief Judge and no Court whatsoever in Edo State was Sitting on that day.
“The Order was an Ex Parte Order. It has a lifespan of 14 Days. If renewed, it has an extended lifespan of 7 Days and nothing more. See the Edo State High Court (Civil Procedures), Rules 2018.
“The Matter has been transferred to another judge and yet to another Judge. The Matter having been transferred, the Orders made by the first Court has (sic) abated.
“The Court of Appeal, Benin in a well considered Ruling, while dismissing an Application filed by Ojezua to dismiss the pending Appeal at the Court of Appeal, Benin, ruled that there are very serious issues to be determined by the Court of Appeal, bordering on Abuse of Court Process and Forum Shopping that the Court of Appeal needed to consider.
“Recall that Ojezua had gone to the Federal High Court, No 2, Benin before the Hon. Justice A.A. Demi-Ajayi, to get an Ex Parte Order, but the Federal High Court Judge asked them to put Imuse and Okah on Notice and later told parties to file all their processes for adoption, after which Ojezua came to file another Suit on the same subject Matter at the Edo State High Court, while that of the Federal High Court was still pending and while Imuse and Okah had filed all their processes for adoption.
“The Matter at the Court of Appeal, Benin is still pending.
“Ojezua is an impostor, as we speak, No 59 Airport Road, Benin City, where Ojezua operates from as an Agent of Obaseki, is the strategic planning Office of the Obaseki and PDP campaign Organisation, for the September 19th Edo State Governorship Elections and how can you have a Chairman with out a Secretary? Lawrence Okah is the Secretary of APC in Edo State.
“All Institutions of the APC deals (sic) with Imuse and Okah. There is only one APC in Nigeria, which recognises Imuse and Okah as their Officials running the Affairs of the Party in Edo State. No one can be more Catholic than Pope.
“If not for mischief, what is PDP’s Business who APC State Chairman in Edo State is?
“Chris Enehikhare and PDP concerning this issue are middlesome (sic) Interlopers.
“They should mind their Business. APC knows who its Chairman is in Edo State. In any case, in a Governorship Elections (sic), INEC only deals with the National Secretariats of Political Parties and not State Secretariats on any issue. See Marafa v. APC (2020 ) NWLR.
“The rantings of Chris Enehikhare is propaganda taken too far.”
The governorship election in the state is scheduled to hold on September 19, 2020.
