Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Osun State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, are among the dignitaries expected at the 30th annual convention of Royal Union of Owu People (RUOP) slated for Orile-Owu in Ayedade Local Government Area of Osun State.
The two-day event which commences, Friday, (December 9) and ends on Saturday, coincides with the 200 years when the ancient Owu kingdom was sacked in 1821 during the Yoruba intra civil war.
RUOP National President, Alhaji Fatai Akinade Akinbade, disclosed this in a release to herald the commencement of the convention, adding that about 35 monarchs of Owu extraction as well as its sons and daughters from all walks of life would be in attendance.
Akinbade noted that though the incident that led to war which necessitated the dispersal of the Owu people affected them somehow, he however, asserted that they have moved on and have continued to contribute positively to every area they find themselves.
“The event that led to the war no doubt have its negative effects, it equally has its positive side. Owu people are not only known as determined set of people, but are equally industrious and always up and doing in various fields of endeavours,” said the RUOP President
Highlight of the two-day event will include laying of foundation of RUOP’s National Secretariat at Orile-Owu, jumat and church services, visit to historical points, among others
