NGF felicitates Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as WTO Director-General

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, has felicitated Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her election to the office of Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO.
The Forum in a statement by the Head, Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, said Okonjo-Iweala’s confirmation which was ratified by the WTO Council and made public on Monday, 15 February 2021, had been long awaited, very well deserved and could not have come at a better time.
“Dr Ngozi-Okonjo Iweala’s pedigree as a well-known global development economist, who has served at some of the most prestigious global financial institutions, apart from her illustrious years as Nigeria’s Finance Minister, raises hopes around the world that her tenure at the WTO will herald remarkable changes in the face of the economic challenges currently afflicting the world.
“The woman of firsts as she is fondly known, because of her accomplishments, brings along exciting news that being a Nigerian would give visibility and credibility to the nation. Already she has, while reacting to the news of her appointment, pledged to immediately commence work by providing solutions that will ameliorate the hardships brought upon humanity by the Covid19 pandemic,” NGF said.
Okonjo-Iweala’s tenure would begin from the 1st of March and last until August 2025 and the NGF wished her a successful tenure through it all, the statement said.
