The Lagos state government has denied media reports on imposition of fines ranging from N20,000 to N500,000 on violators of the Federal Government’s curfew on December 31, 2020.
The stats government side that “this report is inaccurate and misleading.”
In a statement the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso said “The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to an online news item quoting the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, to have said that fines ranging between N20,000 and N500,000 will be imposed on violators of the Federal Government curfew on December 31, 2020. This is inaccurate and misleading.”
It stated that the government was advising residents to comply with COVID-19 protocols because the cases were rising.
Omotoso said the role of religious organisations in fighting the pandemic was well noted, adding that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had issued a statement on how Churches should conduct their watchnight services.
He said the Sanwo-Olu administration had maintained a harmonious relationship with religious organisations and had confidence in the ability of their leaders to ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols amid the clamour for cross-over services.
