The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said that the decision of the service to rejig its top management cadre was in line with statutory requirements and efforts to strengthen its leadership to fortify strategic operations and also optimise service delivery across various departments.
Adeniyi said he had approved the appointment of two new Deputy Comptrollers General DCGs of the service and deployment of four other Assistant Comptrollers General ACGs to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
According to a statement by the National Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, the two new DCGs, one of which was appointed in acting capacity are DCG J.P Ajoku fsi, who will head the Strategic Research and Policy department while DCG B.M Jibo, who is on acting capacity heads the Excise, Free Trade Zone & Industrial Incentives department.
The four redeployed ACGs are I.Q Ogbudu as ACG Excise, Free Trade Zone & Industrial Incentives, ACG I.O Babalola takes over as ACG/Zonal Coordinator in charge of Federal Operations Unit FOU Zone ‘B’, which covers Edo, Delta and other South East states with headquarters in Owerri, ACG H.J Swomen ACG/Zonal Coordinator, FOU Zone ‘A’ with headquarters in Lagos and ACG A. Abdulazeez acting ACG/Zonal Coordinator FOU Zone ‘D’.
The CG, who congratulated the top management officers on their dedication over the years, urged them to embrace their new roles with renewed commitment.
He also emphasised the pivotal role of the service plays in advancing national interests and further called on them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and service delivery.
The statement read.in part: “In response to the recent statutory retirements within the Nigeria Customs Service, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has taken decisive steps to bolster the service’s leadership with appointment of two management members in acting capacity and redeployment of four others to fortify strategic operations and optimise service delivery across various departments.
“The newly appointed management members are poised to steer the NCS towards enhanced efficiency and effectiveness. Their diverse expertise and proven track records are expected to inject fresh momentum into critical areas such as revenue generation, anti-smuggling, and trade facilitation.
“The Nigeria Customs Service remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s economic interests, fostering international trade, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. With this strategic reinforcement of its leadership, the service is poised to navigate evolving challenges and seize opportunities for growth and development.”
