A military plane  crashed on Friday evening in Kaduna State, killing all on board, according to reports.

The training aircraft went down at the Kaduna international airport.

The Ill-fated aircraft repirtedly crashed on the airport’s runway.

No fewer than eleven people were on board, including the Chief of Arny Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru. They were all killed.

Identities of others who were killed in the crash according to a manifest doing the rounds in the online media are listed hereunder.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed the incident via a statement issued shortly after the crash, but did not disclose the identities of the officers.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said the incident occurred near the Kaduna International Airport.

“An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,” he said.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 6 pm while it was raining heavily.

Meantime, the Nigerian Army has confirmed the incident, saying in a statement by its spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima that “The Nigerian Army regrets to announce the passing away of its Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru .

“The sad event occurred following an air crash in Kaduna which also claimed the lives of 10 other officers including the crew.

“The COAS was enroute Kaduna from Abuja on Friday, 21 May, 2021 when the unfortunate incident happened.

“Details of the sad incident and burial arrangements will be communicated soon.”
