Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has expressed condolences to President John Joseph Magufuli, the Mkapa family and people of Tanzania over the passing on of former President Benjamin Mkapa, the nation’s third President, who died at the age of 81.
Jonathan in the condolence message described the late Mkapa as an African hero and champion of regional integration who dedicated his life fighting for peace, security and economic progress on the continent.
“I offer my deepest condolences to His Excellency, President John Joseph Magufuli, the Mkapa family and people of Tanzania over the passing on of former President Benjamin Mkapa, the nation’s third President, who died at the age of 81.
“He was an African hero and champion of regional integration who dedicated his life fighting for peace, security and economic progress on the continent,” Jonathan said
He further stated that the late Mkapa brought his rich experience as a journalist, diplomat and technocrat to bear on his leadership for which he was able to initiate far-reaching reforms that delivered tangible economic benefits to his people.
Jonathan said Mkapa will be sorely missed by all lovers of peace, unity and progress in Africa
