Imo: Okigwe Youth Leader demands Senate ticket for Mbano block, warns APC leaders over zoning and candidate substitution

A youth stakeholder from Okigwe Zone in Imo State has written an open letter to senior APC leaders in the zone, demanding that the party zone its Okigwe Zone Senate ticket to the Mbano block and ensure a free and fair primary process.

In the letter addressed to Chief Tony Chukwu, Chief Maurice Iwu, HRH Eze Oliver Ohanwe, and Chief Cosmos Iwu, the writer, who identifies himself as “BOSS,” said decisions on political representation have for too long been made in closed rooms without input from voters who bear the consequences.

The letter argued that if equity is the guiding principle in Okigwe Zone’s three-block structure, then the Mbano block, comprising Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano Local Government Areas, should produce the next Senate candidate. It stated that the Okigwe/Onuimo and Obowo/Ihitte Uboma blocks have both held the House of Representatives ticket under APC, while Mbano has not had a fair share in the party’s primaries.

“If equity is the guiding principle, then the APC Okigwe Zone Senate seat should be zoned to the Mbano block to balance representation. Anything less undermines trust and proves bias,” the letter said.

The writer also criticized the practice of substituting aspirants who purchased forms with those who did not participate in the process. He said the last House of Representatives primary in Imo left many party members disillusioned and damaged the party’s credibility ahead of elections.

His demands included allowing all qualified aspirants for the Senate seat to contest in a free and fair primary, zoning the ticket to the Mbano block, and ending candidate substitution outside the established process.

While stating respect for the role of elders in building APC in Imo State, the letter warned that sidelining the next generation for short-term political calculations risked losing the zone. It said youth would mobilize peacefully and legally if the concerns were ignored, but would throw their weight behind the party if the process was fair.

The writer described himself as a concerned citizen, voter, and stakeholder in Okigwe Zone. He signed off as “BOSS,” also known as Senior Advocate for the Masses.

The letter adds to ongoing debate over zoning and candidate selection within APC in Imo State ahead of the next election cycle.
