Operatives of the Police Mobile Force, who were approaching Isan from Oye, engaged the assailants and prevented them from seizing control of the community, the source said. Some officers on duty fled during the attack, but security forces have since regained control and restored calm.

The extent of damage is extensive. Two vehicles were burnt inside the station compound. A generator, windows, doors and ceilings were also destroyed by fire. Outside the premises, three additional vehicles were seen completely burnt.

The Ekiti State Police Command had not released an official statement on the incident as of press time. Authorities are expected to give details on arrests and the condition of the injured officer once investigations begin.

The attack adds to a string of assaults on police facilities in southwest Nigeria, raising fresh concerns over security of rural stations and the safety of officers on duty.
