The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has organised a stakeholders’ engagement on the 2025 National Preparedness and Response Campaign (NPRC) in mitigating flooding in Kwara.

The theme of the programme is entitled: “Strengthening Resilience: Enhancing Preparedness and Response”.
Speaking at the programme late on Friday, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, stated that the engagement emphasised the importance of collaboration and coordination in disaster management.
She stated that the campaign was a significant step towards mitigating the impact of flood disasters in Kwara.
The NEMA boss, who was represented by Mrs Opara Chinwe, Assistant Director, Disaster Risk Reduction, NEMA Headquarters, explained that discussion included strategies for managing disaster risks and safeguarding communities.
“According to the 2025 annual flood outlook by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), several local governments in Kwara are predicted to experience flooding,” she said.
She, therefore, emphasised that the stakeholders engagement campaign was a timely and crucial initiative.
In his remarks, Secretary to Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Malam Saadu Mogaji, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to mitigating the effects of the impending flood disaster.
He emphasised the importance of proper coordination and effective mitigation strategies in minimising the impact of the disaster and urged citizens to heed safety advisories during the rainy season and beyond.
“By working together, NEMA and stakeholders can reduce the risks associated with flooding and other hazards, ultimately saving lives and property.
“The stakeholders’ engagement is a testament to NEMA’s proactive approach to disaster management and its commitment to building resilience in communities,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the agencies; NEMA, SEMA sensitised people in Jebba, Moro Local Government, on the impending flood disaster and other related hazards.
The event brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, security personnel, religious bodies and community leaders, among others.
