Urhobo Leadership Forum, Abuja (ULFA) has congratulated Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori on the victory of the team of students from Delta State at the just-concluded World School Debate Championship held in Doha, Qatar.

The Forum, in an open letter signed on its behalf by the President of the Forum, Olorogun (Dr ) Peter Igho (MFR), said it was gratifying that the feat was performed by students drawn from the state’s public schools.

The letter reads in extenso:

“Your Excellency,

“We, the entire membership of Urhobo Leadership Forum, Abuja, (ULFA) wish to congratulate you on the outstanding performance of the team of students drawn from various public schools that represented the Nation at the World School Debate Championship held in Doha, Qatar recently.

“It is gratifying to note that this feat was performed by students drawn from public schools of the State. Public schools are often misconstrued by the elites in our society as schools that no longer produce the best in the educational system.

“This must therefore mean that in place of condemnation, we must now have praise for our public schools. The debating triumph, we hope, should also mark a turning of the tide much heralded by the Governor’s well-known initiatives in other sectors.

“We therefore also congratulate the Ministry of Education Delta State, the teachers and handlers of the team that brought National pride and honor to the Nation and the President for supporting the Nigerian participation of the World Championship Debate.

“Your Excellency, You have demonstrated that given the right incentives, commitment and resources in the training of teachers and in providing adequate resources, our public schools can excel among the best and can compete with others anywhere in the world.

“Your Excellency, we humbly recommend that all the students that participated in the spectacular intellectual debate be appropriately rewarded and their handlers given incentives to act as a catalyst for future growth and development of our public school system.

“Your Excellency, once again, congratulations. We conclude by joining in echoing the popular parlance, ‘Delta no dey carry last oo’, a cliche which insists that Delta always thrives in the front rank and which resonates with some intensity at this moment of pride and triumph.

God bless Delta State.

God bless Nigeria.

Yours, most sincerely,
Olorogun (Dr ) Peter Igho (MFR)
President.
