The outgoing governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, who allegedly sneaked out of Benin in a bus last Friday, has reportedly appeared in Lagos.
The state governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, had, in a statement issued by his media assistant, Godspower Inegbe, claimed that Obaseki’s whereabouts were unknown.
He had claimed in the statement that Obaseki on Friday fled Benin City, the Edo State capital, using a disguised bus.
The statement said that Obaseki chased out everyone from the Government House on Friday before escaping to a yet-to-be known location, 72 hours to his official departure from office.
But on Sunday night, officials of the State Government circulated a photograph on WhatsApp showing Obaseki in Lagos.
They claimed Obaseki was in Harbour Point in Lagos, where he was being hosted by some of his friends.
Read the cutline that they wrote underneath the picture, which was circulated at 23.04 hours [11.04 pm]
“Happening Now…
“Governor Obaseki been [sic] hosted by friends at Habour Point Lagos.
“Governor-Sèlect cannot be endorsing lies and manufactured stories.
“Governance is not a joke. Maybe if mandate was earned, he would have been more retrospect (sic) [circumspect].”
