Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Arsenal on winning the Premier League title, describing the achievement as a product of resilience, discipline and long-term planning.

In a statement issued on Wednesday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku praised the players, coaching crew and supporters for ending Arsenal’s 22-year wait for the English league title.

The former presidential candidate said Arsenal’s return to the top of English football reflected years of rebuilding and strategic leadership.

He said, “Arsenal’s victory did not happen overnight. It is the product of years of rebuilding, disciplined planning, bold decision-making, and the courage to stay the course even when success seemed distant. These are the same principles that have guided my journey in both public life and the private sector.”

Atiku drew parallels between Arsenal’s football project and his political and economic philosophy for Nigeria. According to him, sustainable progress can only be achieved through reforms, youth development and consistency.

“Like a well-managed football club, a nation must create an enabling environment where talent can thrive, innovation is rewarded, and performance is sustained,” he said.

The former vice president said his economic vision has consistently focused on private sector growth and institutional reforms.

“My vision has always been to build an economy that works for all, driven by enterprise, strengthened by institutional reforms, and powered by the energy of our youth. Just as Arsenal invested in youth development and a clear footballing philosophy, Nigeria must invest in its people, reform its institutions, and stay committed to a coherent economic strategy,” he added.

Arsenal’s league triumph has sparked celebrations among supporters worldwide, particularly in Nigeria where the club has one of its largest fan bases. Atiku acknowledged the loyalty of Nigerian Arsenal supporters despite years without a league title.

“Their loyalty is a reflection of the enduring Nigerian spirit, hopeful, resilient, and unbreakable,” he said.

The Waziri Adamawa urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country’s future ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Arsenal’s triumph is a powerful reminder that persistence, discipline, and an unwavering belief in one’s mission ultimately produce results. My own journey in public service has been defined by resilience, consistency, and an unshaken commitment to the Nigerian project,” he said.

He added, “Nigerians should draw inspiration from this moment and remain hopeful that with unity, purpose, and the right leadership, the 2027 election can mark the beginning of a brighter, more prosperous, and more inclusive chapter for our nation.”

Atiku also commended Arsenal’s leadership for building a competitive squad rooted in youth development, tactical intelligence and unity.

Looking ahead, he encouraged the North London club to target UEFA Champions League success after winning the Premier League.

“Having conquered England, I encourage Arsenal to set their sights firmly on the UEFA Champions League. The spirit, quality, and determination that delivered the Premier League title can certainly secure a historic double. The world is watching, and millions of Nigerians are cheering you on,” he said.
