Capitalising on the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to extend the June 3, 2022 deadline for parties’ submission of lists of their candidates by six days, the All Progressives Congress has moved its presidential primary election to June 6 and 7, according to feelers from the party
The party reached the decision after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) bowed to pressure by political parties to extend the dates for their primary elections.
INEC, in a statement on Friday, extended the June 3 deadline parties to have concluded their primary elections and submitted names of candidates for the 2023 elections by six days.
The postponement of APC’s primary election came on the heels of President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s meeting with the leadership guard of the party under the chair of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
The President had also jetted out of the country to Malabo on official assignment, which was indicative of the possibility of the APC primary election not holding this weekend.
The postponement will give the APC enough time to put its act together and restrategise for a seamless exercise.
Meanwhile, leaders and delegates of the PDP have already converged on Abuja for their party’s primary election slated for Saturday, May 28, 2022.
However, THE CONCLAVE reports that this was the second time that the APC had shifted the dates of its presidential primary poll.
