Amnesty International Nigeria has called on Nigerian authorities to drop all charges against Omoyele Sowore.
The global human rights watch group said Sowore was facing an unfair trial.
“Activist Omoyele Sowore is in court again today, facing an unfair trial.
“We are again calling on Nigerian authorities to drop all charges against him,” Amnesty International Nigeria said.
The group declared Sowore a Prisoner of Conscience, who is tried solely for exercising his right to freedom of expression in November 2019.
They said the case of Omoyele Sowore showed just how far the authorities in Nigeria could go to silence their critics.
They added that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari needed to stop filing bogus and politically-motivated charges against critics and start listening to what they were saying.
