His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (also known as Ọjájá II), On May 4, 2023 paid a visit to the United Nations House in Abuja, Nigeria, where he met with Matthias Schmale, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the important role of traditional rulers and community engagement in national development.
During the meeting, the Ooni of Ife highlighted the significant contributions that traditional rulers across Nigeria have made to the success of the country’s COVID-19 response.
He emphasized the need for traditional rulers to continue playing a critical role in fostering community engagement and promoting sustainable development at the grassroots level.
Matthias Schmale, on the other hand, reiterated the commitment of the 21 United Nations agencies operating in Nigeria to collaborate with traditional rulers.
He recognized their importance in the whole-of-society approach being promoted by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
