Amnesty International has called on Nigerian authorities to release 20 protesters detained by Nigeria Police in Katsina.
The International human rights watch group on Friday said 20 protester who were arrested for protesting the rampant bandit’s attacks that led to the death of hundreds of people and displaced thousands across Katsina state were still detained by Nigeria Police
“Amnesty International is appalled that least 20 protester are still detained by Nigeria Police in Katsina. They were arrested solely for protesting the rampant bandit’s attacks that lead to the death of hundreds of people and displaced thousands across Katsina state.
“We are calling on Nigerian authorities to release the protesters immediately and unconditionally,” the group said in a press statement.
It added that protest was not a crime but a right and subjecting activists to such arbitrary arrest was a violation of Nigerian and international human rights laws.
