In an endeavor to bolster national security and combat criminal activities associated with the misuse of tinted glass, the Nigeria Police Force has completed a comprehensive review of the procedures governing tinted glass permits, which were previously prohibited in June 2022.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the prohibition was instated due to widespread concerns regarding the role of tinted glass in facilitating various nefarious activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal firearms transportation, and human trafficking.

With the impending lifting of the ban, stringent measures are being instituted to prevent abuse and ensure strict adherence to the guidelines governing the issuance and utilization of tinted glass permits.

Nationwide ICT Analysts and Enforcement Officers are slated to undergo extensive training on February 29, 2024, in anticipation of the resumption of tinted glass permit issuance.

This training initiative aims to equip ICT Analysts and Enforcement Officers with the requisite skills and knowledge to oversee the registration process, provide guidance to registrants on portal usage where necessary, address public complaints, and enforce compliance effectively.

Emphasis will be placed on comprehending the nuances of the new guidelines, highlighting the imperative of striking a delicate balance between public safety, individual liberties, and national security.

The proposed tinted glass permit will incorporate distinctive features designed to bolster enforcement efficiency and security.

These features include a QR code linked to a central database for instantaneous verification, unique serial numbers correlated with vehicle and owner particulars, and a digital hologram ensuring authenticity and integrity, among other measures.

It is imperative to underscore that the guidelines governing the issuance of tinted permits and the use of tinted glass will strictly adhere to the provisions outlined in the MOTOR VEHICLES (PROHIBITION OF TINTED GLASS) ACT 1991, as well as other pertinent extant laws.

This strategic approach underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing public safety while upholding individual rights and national security imperatives.

The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to furnishing the general public with updates on the implementation of the revised tinted glass permit issuance process, thereby ensuring transparency and accountability in its endeavors to uphold internal security.
