Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Saturday, dismissed rumours doing the rounds that he was planning to dump the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, the platform that brought him to power, and described the speculation as baseless.

Otti firmly denied holding any secret meetings with Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to discuss decampment to the APC.

He urged the public to disregard the rumours, describing them as false and without substance.

He stressed that any political decision with significant impact on Abians would be made in consultation with the people and in their best interest.

The governor also cautioned against overheating the political atmosphere with premature talks about the 2027 elections, emphasizing that the focus should remain on governance rather than politics.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Ekeoma clarified that after the National Economic Council meeting on April 24, Governor Otti and a few other governors merely attended a private event — the birthday celebration of Governor Uzodinma’s twin daughters — which had no political undertones.

“Governor Otti’s growing popularity and outstanding performance naturally attract attention and political speculation,” Ekeoma said.

“However, any major political move will always be made transparently, with the consent and best interests of Abians in mind.”

He stated: “Governor Otti remains a member of the Labour Party and is not discussing, planning, or considering a move to the APC or any other political party.”
